Gertrude Eileen Baldock was born at Newtown on 13 November 1898 and baptised the following month, on 21 December, at St Stephen’s, Newtown — the family then living at 102 Hordern Street.1 She married on 11 June 1921, at that same church, Donald Fraser Elliott, a Neutral Bay bricklayer, son of Henry Elliott, a storeman, and Grace Elizabeth (Fraser).2
The couple settled at 95 Young Street, Cremorne, and stayed there for over forty years — into at least the 1980 electoral roll. Donald died in 1963; Gertrude outlived him nearly two decades, into the last roll of her own life, dying in 1981.3
Their son, Donald Roy, born in 1923, served with the Second A.I.F. and later moved to Queensland, where he died in 1996; their daughter, Patricia, married Stanley Ernest Miller in 1948, and the young couple later kept house together at 216 Campbell Parade, Bondi Beach, Stanley then working as an upholsterer.4

NSW BDM death registration 1996/53116: Donald Roy Elliott, born 1923, died 10 April 1996, parents Donald Fraser Elliott and Eileen Gertrude Baldock; Toowoomba Garden of Remembrance, Toowoomba, Queensland. (An NAA service record for a Donald Roy Elliott, service no. NX10806, 2nd A.I.F., gives his birth as 25 May 1920 — three years earlier than the death registration; as with his uncle Harold Roy a generation before, this looks more like an age added at enlistment than an error in the later record. Neither his birth nor his marriage — if any — has yet been traced. A Prisoner of War/internee card index also lists a Sapper “Elliott, Donald Roy,” regimental number VX38951 — but the “VX” prefix marks a Victorian enlistment, at odds with this Donald Roy’s New South Wales background and his already-documented NX10806, so this branch treats the card as almost certainly a different, unrelated man of the same name rather than evidence of wartime captivity.)
