Frederick Charles Bawn
1852–1871

- 23 April 1871 · Sydney Infirmary · buried Balmain Cemetery, aged 18
Frederick Charles was born in 1852 (reg. 7/1852) and baptised, unusually for this family, at St James’s, Sydney, rather than St Philip’s.1 At about sixteen, in August 1868, he was fined for riotous behaviour in Edward Street, alongside another youth, Joseph Shepherd — the heavier of the two fines, 40s. to the other’s 20s., fell to him.2
He died at the Sydney Infirmary on 23 April 1871, aged eighteen, and was buried at Balmain Cemetery by the undertakers J. & G. Shying & Co. — the same firm that had handled, two years earlier, the still-unidentified 1869 funeral of “Mr. George Bawn” discussed on his father’s own page. Whether that is a real connection, or simply the same family using the same undertaker twice, cannot presently be said.3
