Named for his grandfather Stephen Robens. His obituary in the Bruce Rock paper is the fullest surviving account of any of the nine. He had travelled the Commonwealth trying his hand at many kinds of work and never settling, until a spell on the Western Australian goldfields turned him to farming — which he then did through pioneer hardship and the Depression for forty years.11
An early member of the Bruce Rock Agricultural Society, long on its committee, remembered for turning up reliably and for bringing good sharp tools to prepare the show grounds each year; a life member at seventy-one. He helped raise the money for the district’s first hospital and sat eighteen years on its original board.11 His sons Noel Stephen and Sydney Robert Twyford were both born at Cottesloe, near Perth, in 1914 and 1917 — which shows the family had gone west well before the electoral rolls pick them up. Sydney flew with the RAAF, rising to Flight Lieutenant.12
