Maria Cook was born on 11 February 1845 and baptised at St Andrew’s, Sydney, on 15 October 1853 with her sisters Jane and Margaret, less than a month after their mother’s death.1
On 8 December 1866, by special licence, at St Luke’s Church, Liverpool, she married Henry James Barrett, of Maneroo (the Monaro), fifth son of Mr William Barrett of Minto. The notice called her ‘Maria, eldest daughter of the late Alexander Currie Cook, M.D., of Sydney’.2 Her later life has not yet been traced.
